Senate President Therese Murray reiterated her insistence Thursday that the state wring cost-savings out of the transportation system before hitting up payers of taxes and tolls, firing back at Patrick administration criticism that "reform before revenue" is a "meaningless slogan." "It is not just a slogan or a sound-bite," Murray said. "It's a principle." (State House News Service, 3/12/09)

Murray appeared to respond to a March 11 posting on Patrick's Facebook, in which Patrick's "Facebook Team" said, Patrick was "up against the clock. If we dither with reform before revenue, the bond covenants negotiated by prior administrations at the MBTA and the Turnpike Authority mandate toll and fee increases that will cripple the MBTA and impose crippling toll burdens on Mass. Turnpike drivers." Murray told the committee, "We're not dithering with reform before revenue. It's real. Just ask the toll- and taxpayers."
